Spruce up your homes, welcome 2023

Bidding a happy goodbye to 2022, we are eagerly looking forward to welcome New Year 2023. Given that state of anticipation of joy, why not try to infuse happiness and fulfilment and improve our mental well-being. With the popular saying, “Preparation determines the outcome” in mind, get started with making things happen.

What else can be a good beginning, than sprucing up our home to welcome the New Year? Come on, get your creative juices flowing. As a first step, let us increase positivity in homes. It is fresh air and sufficient sunlight that aid this. Therefore, the first and foremost step is to concentrate on the blinds or curtains.

Curtains, blinds

Change your curtains just before the New Year. Choose colors such as pink, orange, or yellow, promoting increased energy and focus. If you wish to increase positive vibes, baby blue or lavender can also be used. Scrub the window panes till they shine so that they will not block light and make the room brighter. After all this keep the windows open and draw back the curtains early in the morning to let in more positive energy into the home. Try to put on bright adequate lights in any dark corner.

Painting

Adding a fresh dab of paint to the walls will heighten your mood on New Year. If not the entire house, paint the living room with positive colours. Other walls can be given temporary treatments.

Wall hangings

Once the walls are painted, they can be decorated with wall art to make the spaces look more refined. The hangings can be just a nice photo of yourself or a 3D Tanjore painting at an appropriate place so that when guests turn in for the New Year, it can be a good conversation starter. They are sure to admire your taste in art. Never forget to put up mirrors strategically for they help to ward off negative energies. They also make light bounce around the room, making it look larger and brighter.

But all these ideas are possible only if you have enough space on the wall. If you lack space, just decorate the wall with a nice wallpaper and the wall itself can project itself as a piece of art.

Choosing right lighting

Well-lit spaces give you confidence. They are not just bright areas in a home but the most elegant areas too. Now is the time to make smart lighting choices (if you don’t have one already). For instance, if you have a big hall, lights can be installed strategically so that you need to switch them to the place where you will be seated and not illuminate the entire room. Find out what works for you. Add table lamps and floor lamps to usher in the New Year spirit.

Wind a string of colourful lights around the balcony railing or near the French windows. Make sure that the light and colours impart inner peace when you spend the evening outdoors.

Flowers & scent

A bouquet of flowers (mainly fresh roses) can do wonders for your home. Change them once every two days to enjoy the sweet scent of fresh blooms. Strings of jasmine can be hung in the pooja area every day for a heavenly feel. Powdered camphor can be strewn lightly in the pooja and dining area to liven up our mood.

Candles, an oil diffuser, or a homemade potpourri mix can help create a pleasant scent and are sure to set a luxurious tone to your home.

Decluttering

In addition to decorations, mainly clear the clutter at home. This itself is a way of beautifying spaces. Style any surface in a neat and elegant manner. Be it a coffee table, center table, TV stand, or a small shelf beside the bed, arrange small figurines of various shapes, patterns and textures to give it a visual appeal.

But let us not go overboard. Less is the new normal as we are all staying in limited square areas. Minimalism is the key. Don’t spend a lot of money for decorating a home; Reuse, Recycle, and basically REFUSE.
