10 tips to decorate bedroom for couples

The bedroom is a private space, especially for couples. It is where you turn to whenever you are tired, sick or back home after a long busy day. We do need designer-approved tips to keep this part of our home neat, cosy, comfortable and user-friendly. Whether you are beginning the furnishings from the scratch or just sprucing up the bedroom space, be sure to run your eyes over these tips before tackling the upgrade.

1. Self-containing wardrobes

Couples do need a self-contained bedroom. You should furnish and decorate it in such a way that right from the time you get up and get ready to leave for the office, the room must give you all the convenience you need and pep up your mood. Therefore, your wardrobes must be replete with shelves, hanging space and drawers, to contain all your belongings. You can illuminate your wardrobe with bright lights either in the form of fittings on the palette which will run around the wardrobe or just stick a series of bulbs around. This lighting will prevent you from fumbling around for negligees and other essentials.

Wardrobes come in different types. The hinged wardrobe can be easily locked and is ideal for a large bedroom. Trendy are the sliding wardrobes. It can be designed to have 2 or 4 doors and will not occupy much space. For visual appeal, you can choose the mirror wardrobes as they create an illusion of space and give a glamorous vibe to the bedroom design.

A spacious cupboard or open shelf should also be fitted along with the wardrobes which will have enough space for bags, shoes, coats, linen and trolley bags and boxes. This can be covered with a curtain with flower designs to make it look appealing.

2. Setting the bed

Ensure that the furniture in the bedroom should be just to the optimum. It should never fill up the room. The size of the bed should never be too huge, leaving little space to walk around. If you feel that you cannot accommodate your cot (suited to your size and health) and mattress in your bedroom, then go in for a home with a bigger bedroom or change the bed settings.

Side tables and a charging point along with light and fan switches need to be near the head of the bed. A lovely flower vase either with fresh flowers or even artificial flowers on the side tables will help to liven up the couple, despite a hectic official schedule. A notepad with a stylish pen stand with a reading lamp on one side table will help to note down whatever you need to remember, officially or personally.

3. Dressing table

Either the dressing essentials can be part of your clothes inside a wardrobe or they can be kept in a separate place like a dressing table on one side of the room. The mirror itself is the decorative part of the dressing table. The size and shape can add beauty to the bedroom. Decorating the mirror with wooden carvings on either side of the mirror will make you take a second look at the arrangement.

Apart from a table and dressing table, never have any other furniture inside the bedroom as it will make it look small. Always let the minimalistic furniture occupy a vertical space as it clears the floor as much as possible. To cut more clutter off the floor, wall hooks and large storage solutions like armoires can all be used. No more throwing baskets or blankets or laptops around on the floor. Put them in the right place at the right time.

4. Well-defined work area

Try to accommodate a small writing table in the room. This aspect will be useful for those who are given the option of ‘Work From Home’, now and then. In case, you have to reach out to the office at midnight, you just need to use this table and your job will be done with ease. A small storage space along with the working table will enable you to keep your laptop, iPad, iPod and other office essentials safe. Never forget to place this working table near a charging point to avoid a long string of wires. A tissue box, a desk calendar and a cup for stationary should be kept on the table. What cannot be overlooked is a good ergonomic chair near the table. This completes your small working space in the bedroom.

5. Boosting colours on walls

When you talk of decorations, it points to colours. Red, orange, and yellow are warm colours and our brain associates with them and evokes passion, comfort and power. It is also said that blue, green and purple calms our mind and counteracts feelings of anxiety. Colours can energise you and boost your mood when you get up. This is how different colours work on our psyche.

  • A bewitching red colour on walls and pure white sheets can set in a romantic mood.
  • Now, reverse the look. A bold red bedding and bright white walls with some artwork will give an all-convincing look
  • To assert the youthful spirit in you, make a fearless choice of bright bubble gum pink for the wall. This can be balanced with floral patterns too
  • Peachy colour on walls will make it glow if the room lets in a lot of sunlight. The pillows can have a lot of butterfly artwork on their covers. With these decorations, the bedroom will feel layered and comfortable
  • You think beige and cream are boring colours for walls? No way. They are subtle and warm and one of the best paint options for a bedroom. For bright interiors, choose taupe (a neutral shade that falls between brown and grey). Taupe shade with beige and cream conveys a contemporary and cooling effect. Throw in a good amount of pillows on the bed for a special effect

6. Ubiquitous Wallpaper

Wallpapers are one of the best home décors. It is very ideal to use them for decorating a couple’s bedroom. Some of the lively varieties are removable, waterproof, oil-resistant, eco-friendly and can be repositioned also. They are easy to apply and one need not spend a lot of time affixing them, Just peel and stick.

The patterns on the paper dress up the bedroom and also hide stains and smudges. However small or big the room space may be, they guarantee you to bring forth pops of pizzazz.

To introduce a bit of wilderness to your bedroom you can choose forest motifs. If the leaves are beige, deep golden yellow on the wallpaper, it gives the bedroom, a luxe, modern feel.

You can choose bold geometric prints to add colour and character to the bedroom space. Minimalist bedrooms can be done up with folk-inspired patterns.

Flowery Bohemian patterns bring a playful touch to the bedroom. The feature walls can have bohemian-style floral wallpapers. The flamboyant, eye-catching flowery designs will usher in a touch of elegance to the bedroom.

7. Lights, a stunning decor

With the right lighting fixtures, the bedroom can be transformed into a well-decorated and cosy space. Ambient and accent lighting can add softness and set the correct mood for couples.

Apart from the decorative table lamps for task lighting, a big light fixture in the centre of the bedroom forms an arresting accent feature. Lantern-style caged pendant lights hung low on either side of the bed, can serve as reading lights and decorative lights. For a cosy ambience, lights can be fixed on the wall on either side of the bed. Adding a floor lamp not only casts a soft glow to the room but also adds depth. Track lights, tray lights, ceiling-mounted lights and recessed lights can create a relaxed ambience in the bedroom.

8. Curtains, a hanging decor

Only curtains set the tone for a beautiful bedroom and give that finishing appeal. Thanks to their fuss-free nature, they are ideal for any room, and they are one of the most popular decorative factors. They can just adorn the window or can be hung from the floor to the ceiling.

When it comes to curtains, it is not just designed, the fabric too matters. Cotton is light, breathable and easy to maintain (Machine-washable fabric should be preferred). The heavier and sumptuous fabric gives a luxury vibe. Gauzy and provence-style drapes can be introduced in the bedroom. Natural colours on the curtains can turn them, into a timeless element of the bedroom.

Blinds can be embraced as an alternative. They can be cleaned easily and custom-made for your doors and window shapes. The material of the blinds can be seamlessly matched with the existing design of the bedroom. Either you can go in for clean and classic linen or even explore eclectic options such as bamboo.

9. False ceiling, for an overall appeal

False ceilings play an important role in decorating bedrooms. They are more than just hiding wires and give that magical touch to your bedroom. They save energy significantly and help insulate the temperature of the bedroom. Generally, gypsum is the best material chosen in interior designs, as it is easy to install and maintain.

Property owners are spoilt for choice with false ceiling designs. The patterns currently available in the market will animate the space and add a sense of dynamism. Generally, homebuyers prefer a cut-out in the ceiling so that fans and lights can be fitted in the remaining space. The design of the cut-out (square, circle, star and diamond) must complement the style of your bedroom.

When you have a workspace in your bedroom, be sure to have lights embedded in the false ceiling above it, to create a productive nook. A pleasant seating space can also be created with the right design. Intricate carvings can also be done on the false ceiling to give the bedroom a rich look.

10. Plants, scented candles

Bedroom plants are a great decorative idea for they enhance your mood, relieve you of stress and increase productivity. Some plants naturally filter air pollutants. They help purify the air in the bedroom for often your bedroom’s insulation paint and furniture can pollute the air with formaldehyde and benzene. Some of the best plants that can adorn your bedroom are Peace lily, Aloe vera, Areca palm, Snake Plant and Ferns. These are not just verdant and beautiful but also possess good air-filtering properties.

Scented candles do not just add aroma but also provide numerous health benefits for the bedroom. To boost your energy and for a good sleep, among others, using scented candles is perhaps the best option. Fragrances that suit the bedroom are lavender, vanilla, geranium, rose, peppermint, lemon & orange.

We understand that to ensure that your boudoir is an ideal blend of beauty and comfort, there are several factors to consider. So, do not let any stone unturned to imbue the bedroom with stylish and relaxing vibes.
